The Malaw Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) on Friday presented K3 million cash prize to Davie Banda (not the footballer), who is winner of its 2014 World Cup Predict and Win promotion.

But Banda, 40, and a father of two, said he only spent less than K3 000 to be unveiled as grand winner of the promotion.

“I am happy to be crowned as grand winner of the promotion. I did not believe it when people said I have won. However, when I made a followed with MBC management early this month, I discovered that it was real,” said Banda, who works as a police officer at Muloza Police Post in Mulanje.

He said he would use the money to build a house of his own. “Since they say, life begins at 40, I need to build a house where to live in once I retire from the Malawi Police Service (MPS)

Banda thanked MBC for the promotion, saying it has promoted lives of those who won various cash prizes.

MBC public relations manager Ruth Gama told the media during a news conference held at Kwacha Studio in Blantyre that during the promotion, listeners and viewers had the opportunity to predict the team that would win.

“We will always try to inspire the nation as per MBC’s objective while increasing awareness of our various educational, entertaining and informative programmes,” said Gama.
