Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate’s Court last Friday sentenced Steve Chikhungwa, 30, of Chilemba Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chimaliro in Thyolo to six years imprisonment with hard labour for theft by servant.
State prosecutor Austin Daudi said the convict, who worked as a senior bank clerk at Ntchisi Malawi Savings Bank agency, stole K1 044 898.10 by receiving deposited cash and endorsing the amounts in customers’ passbooks, without depositing the money.
“In other instances, he fraudulently withdrew money from customers’ accounts,” said Daudi.
