Banyana Bafana in town

DJ Dan and Banyana Bafana continue to assert their beat in Malawi’s club culture, taking their vigorous dance moves to Club XL along Blantyre-Chikhwawa Road this Sunday.

The Zimbabwean group, promoted by Miss Matofotofo founder Lwazi Mbowa, announced their coming with a show at Zitherepano in Mangochi three weeks ago. On June 1, they were at Sunbird Mount Soche in a Zimbabwe night concert which marginalised many dance-loving Malawians.

So, this Sunday’s show is not just a continuation of the Sunday afternoon jams which have attracted Black Missionaries, Agoloso, Lucky Stars and Shatters Band to the venue at Green Corner so far. For those who thought the Zim night was an exclusive party, it is perfect to go for and fill the blanks.

“Some people [shunned] the show at Mount Soche because they thought it was meant for Zimbabweans only,” said Mbowa after the shunned performance.

And Entertainers Promotion president Jai Banda promises “an energetic sun-downer” as the dancers unpack their strong steps to equally throbbing sound from his megawatt sound equipment on Club XL’s steel stage.

With DJ Dan on the turntables, Banyana Bafana is an octet –comprising four men and four women– famed for patapata to ndombolo and mbira dances. They will use the same stage as Malawi’s Kanda Bongoman, William Kamgoga as well as Toza Morner Kapito and Soul Chembezi.
