Barry One’s 3rd album out

Celebrated local hiphop artist Barry One has finally dropped his third album, Footprints. Four singles—Automatic (featuring Kalista), Malangwani (ft Piksy), Ulendo (ft Armstrong) and Kapilire (ft Maskal)—are already enjoying massive airplay in different radio stations and clubs.

In an interview, Barry One said the album is a departure from previous hits reinforced by radical rap.

“If you listen carefully to these songs, you will notice that they are not so hiphop, but rather a fusion of genres. I decided to tone down because I am trying to reach out to all generations. I’m trying to make music for all classes of people,” said the rapper.

The 12-track album—which will be launched in September— explores themes ranging from love, daily struggles, partying and faith.

He is optimistic that the country’s urban music scene is on course for success.

He explained: “We are not there yet, but the progress is phenomenon. There is commendable play of our music in different radio stations due to incessant popular demands. Additionally, patronage at our shows is so impressive; to me, this is a potent symbol of progress and acceptance.”

Barry One noted that the challenge is that most artists continue to manage themselves due to lack of promoters and sponsors.

The album is a product of different hands. Among the producers include Sonyezo “Sonye” Kandoje, Brian “God’s Favourite” Nkhata, Sannie Beatz and Percy Manyozo.
