Bash Automotive Limited has turned the Bash Memorial Golf Tournament into an annual contest following an emotional inaugural event at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) last weekend.

The tournament was organised to celebrate the life of Bashir Shariff Jnr, first-born son to the company’s founder and managing director Bashir Shariff, who died on March 20.

“I planned that my son would take over my business once he turned 18, but unfortunately, he died 11 days before that time ripened. I did not understand his death. However, we have to celebrate his life in a special way, hence this tournament, which will be conducted annually in his memory,” he said.

Ash Godambe was the winner in the men’s category while Connie Muguvu triumphed in the ladies’ section.

Thanks to two birdies he gorged on the first and sixth holes, handicap-seven golfer Godambe collected a total of 20-stableford points and raised his head above a field of 34 golfers, including his runner-up Steve Kamanga and third-placed James Katunga, who got 17 and 16 points, respectively.

Handicap-17 Muguvu outsmarted a field of six female golfers with 14-stableford points, two ahead of her runner-up handicap-35 golfer Harriet Marian.

Alfred Chikale posted 20-stableford points to push Peter Lumbe (15 points) to the second slot in the juniors’ category while Vanessa Mtupa was the lone contestant in the girls’ section. Playing off handicap 30, she gathered three points. n
