Basketball Coaches Association (BCA) has been formed to promote the career across the country, Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) technical director Obed Nyirongo has announced.

The basketball family took advantage of a recent All Stars tournament at the African Bible College in Lilongwe to establish the committee whose interim chairperson is Dean Lungu, Nyirongo said.

Lungu, from the Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal), will be deputised by Nyirongo from the Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal). Sozobal player Hope Chisamanga is the general secretary and development coach.

“Each zone has one coach representative among the executive members. Nozobal has Young Jere. Others are Tonderai Mutasa (Cezobal) and Justin Luwemba (Sozobal),” Nyirongo said.

The polls for the coaches association took place during the All Stars finals which Sozobal won after defeating Cezobal 76-66.

Basmal president Raymond Banda was over the moon appreciating the skills players showcased during the finals. He encouraged them to work hard as one way of enticing sponsors.
