Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) will hold its annual general meeting (AGM) on Saturday in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre.

According to Basmal general Secretary Dalitso Tepetheya, the AGM will, among other things, table the misunderstanding between the association and its affiliate, Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal).

Cezobal cancelled its Presidential Initiative on Sports (PIS) regional finals due to financial disagreement with Basmal.

“The issue was on pending and we have taken advantage of the AGM to table it and see the way forward. We trust this is the right forum to come up with a concrete understanding,” said Tepetheya.

Malawi National Sports Council (MNSC) executive secretary George Jana said there is need for the two parties to resolve the issue amicably.

“The current stalemate is definitely not good for the sport. Council can only encourage the two parties to come to an agreement with each respecting the other’s authority and responsibility for the good of the sport,” said Jana.

The meeting will also receive reports from the president, the secretary, the treasurer and various sub-committees.

“There will also be presentation of the 2012/2013 calendar, ratification of constitutional amendments,” said Tepetheya.
