Basmal secures K7m national tourney sponsorship

Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) has secured  K7 million sponsorship for men’s national championship.

Basmal general secretary,Edgar Ng’ong’ola said details of the sponsorship will be disclosed at a press briefing to be held soon.

“A sponsor has already been identified for this year’s national finals and we will unveil the sponsor at a press briefing shortly. We worked very hard and tirelessly to secure this sponsorship.

“We can assure basketball fans and players to start preparing for this big event which will see the champions receiving K1 million prize,” he said.

The tournament attracts the top three teams from the Centre and South while the North provides two teams.

Central Knights, Cougars and Mimbulu will represent Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) while Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal) will be represented by Bricks, Magang’a and Chanco Hawks.

The Northern Zone Basketball League will have Nkulande and Mzuzu Pistons as their ambassadors.

Central Knights media officer Emmanuel Phiri hailed Basmal for securing the sponsorship, saying it will enhance competition.

“This is good news that will bring a lot of excitement. The sponsorship will motivate the players to give out something extra. It will not only be a battle for the ultimate prize but also bragging rights,” he said.

The three-day event will be held next month in Lilongwe at a venue to be announced. Bricks are the defending champions.
