People who currently occupy houses meant for staff of Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) have obtained a court injunction, restraining hospital management from evicting them.

The concerned people obtained the court order from the High Court in Lilongwe after hospital management served them with notice to vacate the houses by June 1 2014.

KCH management has been under pressure from staff, who on May 2 2014 downed tools to force the concerned occupants vacate the houses.

KCH staff social welfare committee chairperson, Stella Warren, said in an interview they will challenge the court order through Ministry of Health.

Said Warren: “We are meeting first thing tomorrow morning [today] to discuss the modalities of setting aside the order.”

The court order was jointly obtained by Alide Issa Chingomamje, Leonard Mawaya, Wright James Chisamba and Martin Cheonga on May 31 2014.

It was only served on the hospital’s management on Wednesday afternoon.

The order restrains the management from implementing its decision until a judicial review takes place.

“Upon reading the statement lodged pursuant to rule 3(2) of the order 53 of the rules of Supreme Court, the High Court has ordered that the applicants be allowed leave to apply for judicial review,” reads the order in part.
