Crowd pullers Big Bullets continue to dominate the TNM Sapota Mapeto SMS promotion and have earned K1.47 million in the first month while their rivals Mighty Be Forward Wanderers have kept up their bridesmaid tag on second position, earning K991 445.

This was revealed during the first draw of the current season held in Blantyre on Tuesday that saw Nomads’ Namadzi-based fan Rodrick Makawa winning the grand weekly prize of K200 000 ($400).

Bullets amassed 39 023 hits while the Nomads had 26 688. Silver Strikers were third with 3 150 hits which earned them K118 440 ($237). With only 54 hits, Red Lions FC were the least earner with a K725 ($1.45) revenue.

TNM’s new marketing head Webster Mbekeani said the 2015 season has brought new things to woo football fans to participate in the promotion, thereby supporting their teams.

“One such development is supporters’ engagement initiative through which TNM is engaging supporters to get them to know more about Sapota Mapeto and fully embrace the concept. We have so far interacted with Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers supporters and we will reach out to the rest of the teams,” he said.

There were also other prizes such as Y221 handsets, TNM airtime worth K5 000 ($1)1 each for five participants, K2 500 ($5) worth airtime worth K2 500 each for 10 participants and five Flames replica jerseys.

In an interview from Namadzi yesterday, winner of the weekly grand prize Makawa, said: “I have won K200 000? Is that true?. It’s news to me. I am very excited.”

Big Bullets FC continue to dominate TNM’s Sapota Mapeto SMS promotion.

The team got more hits than any other Super League team in the initial drive for the current season which earned them K482 888.

According to TNM’s sponsorship and public relations manager Limbani Nsapato, Bullets registered 17 246 out of over 50 000 SMSs with their traditional arch-rivals Mighty Wanderers coming second with over 8 000 hits.

“We are impressed by the outcome this far. We are disbursing about K1.2 million and Big Bullets FC have claimed a lion’s share of the total during the first two weeks.

“We feel that the clubs can sustain themselves once they utilise the platform,” said Nsapato.

He called on teams to encourage their supporters to send more text messages as one way of generating additional funds for their teams.

The first team to register 100 000 SMS hits shall get K1 million as an additional benefit during this season’s promotion.

TNM, who sponsor the flagship football league, said this year’s promotion runs from July 19 to January 25 next year and to make the participation more exciting, this time around special trivia questions related to the league have been added and the successful participants will win various prizes ranging from TNM airtime, cell phones, footballs, T-shirts and vuvuzelas.

One of the lucky participants was Wanderers fan James Mtambo from Ndirande Township who won a cell phone. He could not hide his excitement and urged fellow supporters to join the campaign to generate funds for their respective teams.

TNM launched Sapota Mapeto in June last year and a total K12 683 622 was realised from which Bullets were the highest beneficiary when they got about K5.9 million. Each SMS costs K40 from which K28 (70 percent) goes towards the team.
