CAF has finally released its inter club tournaments draw which has seen Nyasa Big Bullets being pitted against Gor Mahia of Kenya in the preliminary round of the Champions League.
On the other hand, Silver Strikers have been drawn against Gabonese side A.O CMS in the Confederation Cup.
The draws for the tournaments were held last Saturday in Morocco, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) put them on hold due to what it described as “a special situation”.
According to the draw released on Friday, the People’s Team will host Gor Mahia on November 27/28 while the return leg will be played a week later in Nairobi.
The winner between Bullets and Gor Mahia will face winners between UMS de Loum of Cameroon and Lobi Stars of Nigeria.
Reacting to the draw, Bullets director Albert Chigoga said: “There are no easy teams in the Champions League because it is a tournament which attracts the cream of the continent in as far as club football is concerned.
“Gor Mahia are a top team and seasoned campaigners at continental level, but we will prepare for them.”
As part of their preparations for the tournament Bullets are scheduled to travel to Tanzania next week for international friendly matches against Simba Sports Club and JKU SC of Zanzibar who are also taking part in the same tournament.
In the Confederation Cup, Silver will meet A.O CMS on the same dates as in the Champions League.
The winner will proceed to the first round to meet either Raja of Morocco or RD from Congo.
Silver general secretary Lawrence Yobe said they will have to exercise a lot of caution considering that they will play the first leg away.
“We need to draw lessons from what happened to Be Forward Wanderers and Masters Security who conceded a lot of goals in the first legs away in similar tournaments.
“So, we will have to come up with a plan to hold the Gabonese side and ensure that we should not be fragile at the back,” he said.
Yobe also said while they know nothing about their opponents, “but in terms of Fifa rankings, there is not much gap between Malawi and Gabon which means that there isn’t much difference”.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) licensing and compliance manager Casper Jangale on Friday confirmed having been communicated about the draw.
