According to well-placed sources, Bullets met MDF deputy commander Griffin Supuni-Phiri on Tuesday in Lilongwe, who reportedly accepted the request.

The source said the deputy Army commander accepted Bullets’ request on strict condition that the two will only feature in the continental showpiece.

Supuni-Phiri could not be reached for comment, but MDF spokesperson Francis Kakhuta Banda confirmed hearing about the meeting.

“I heard something to that extent, but I do not have the details now. I need to get more information,” said Kakhuta Banda.

However, while being elusive on the meeting with the deputy Army commander, Bullets general secretary Harold Fote confirmed getting MDF’s approval to sign the two players on loan.

“What I can say is that we had fruitful discussions with senior MDF officials who accepted our request to get the players on loan, specifically for the CAF tournament,” said Fote.

He also confirmed that the two players were registered with CAF alongside former Flames tormentor-in-chief Chiukepo Msowoya just before the January 30 cut-off point for late registration.

Asked if they were able to raise $1 500 (K654 000) for late registration of the three players, Fote said: “Imeneyo sinkhani (that is not an issue), the bottom line is that we have managed to register them.”

He said they are expecting Simkonda and Nkacha to join their squad tomorrow.

Bullets’ initial bid for the two players was turned down by their respective clubs.

The development is a boost to Bullets who failed to rope in Richard Chipuwa and Francis Mulimbika (Be Forward Wanderers), John Lanjesi (Civo United) and Chawanangwa Kaonga (Silver Strikers).

Bullets will face Club Fomboni in their preliminary round first leg tie away in the Comoros on February 14.n
