BB in tricky away fixtures

Listen to this article

Nyasa Big Bullets invade the Capital City Lilongwe where they have tricky fixtures against Kamuzu Barracks this afternoon at Civo Stadium and Masters Security tomorrow at Dedza Stadium.

The two away fixtures will define the defending champions’ destiny after a shaky start to their title defence which has seen them toppled from the top three on the table.

Bullets players celebrate one of their goals

Bullets, who moved to position four after beating Mlatho Mponela  3-0 last week, need to collect full points in the two matches if they are to compete for the top position.

But they face resilient leaders Kamuzu Barracks who have vowed to protect the top position.

The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) outfit lead with 23 points and their coach Billy Phambala, knows a loss to Bullets will give a chance to second–placed Be Forward Wanderers, who face TN Stars at Kamuzu Stadium this afternoon to climb to the top .

But the coach was confident that they can overcome Bullets as he aims for a second TNM Super League title.

“We have a fantastic team which is capable of winning the title. We just have to keep the momentum. It is games like these that matter most if you want to win the championship,” he said.

Though Bullets managed that 3-0 win over Mlatho Mponera in their last weekend match, the away matches will tell if they are back on their feet.

Injuries have plagued the People’s Team and this afternoon they will play without centre back James Lanjesi, who is out of for six weeks following an injury he sustained in the match against Mlatho.

Bullets will also be without left-back Precious Sambani, who is down with flu and rightback Pilirani Zonda who is attending  his grandmother’s burial in Karonga.

Coach Kalisto Pasuwa, who has traveled with a 23-member squad for the two games, is also missing the services of MacPharlen Mgwira, Miracle Gabeya, Righteous Banda and Dalitso Sailesi due to injuries.

Pasuwa has however, sought the services of Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve side’s Nickson Nyasulu for cover at the back.

Team manager James Chilapondwa said though missing the players, they will aim for maximum points.
