At long last. Nyasa Big Bullets injured goalkeeper Vincent Gona can now breath a sigh of relief as the team’s sponsors—Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC)—have met the K1 million shortfall needed for his back injury.

Gona needed K3.6 million for the surgery and part of it was raised from a friendly match involving his club and Be Forward Wanderers in June this year.

Bullets interim general secretary Kelvin Moyo confirmed yesterday that Gona is set to undergo the operation within the week.

“We had successful negotiations with our sponsor and they have released the K1 million shortfall.

“This means he should undergo the surgery within the week if all goes well,” he said.

Gona, who was TNM Super League goalkeeper of the season in 2014, when he inspired the People’s Team to win the league title after almost a decade, said he was thankful to all those who have contributed towards his cause.

“Words fail me, suffice to say I am very thankful to all those who played a part. The good Lord should bless them abundantly,” he said.
