BB play down Kayira, team manager scuffle

Big Bullets FC have played down midfielder Chimango Kayira’s announcement that he has quit the team after he was allegedly slapped by team manager Noel Kawole.

Kayira posted on his Facebook wall on Sunday evening that he had quit the club following the incident that occurred after their TNM Super League game against Kamuzu Barracks in Lilongwe, which Bullets won 3-0.

According to a well-placed source, Bullets players were having fun at a drinking joint when Kawole and Kayira exchanged bitter words.

“They were involved in a verbal crossfire and in the process Kawole lost his cool and slapped Chimango in the face,” said the source.

Both Kayira and Kawole could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.

But while confirming the incident, Bullets general secretary Higger Mkandawire played down the incident.

“Chimango indeed posted something to that effect, but he acted out of emotions. It was a minor internal disciplinary issue that has since been sorted out.

“That is why if you visit his Facebook wall now, you will see that he has removed the posting. So, I can assure the BB family that the player has not quit and the issue has been sorted out amicably,” said Mkandawire.
