BB players share CAF League lessons

Big Bullets players claim to have learnt the hard way from their 2015 CAF Champions League adventure which ended with a 1-1 draw against Al Hilal of Sudan on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium.

Captain Fischer Kondowe told The Nation that playing away in Africa was an eye-opener “as things happen unexpectedly as was the case in Sudan when we lost 4-0. We were caught unawares. Tactically, we were not ready in Sudan.”

Defender Pilirani Zonda was more specific in sharing the lessons from the four games, that included 1-0 win and 2-2 draw with Fomboni Club de Moheil of the Comoros.

“We have learnt one or two things which we will transfer to Super League. We have been taught that discipline of play and organisation is very important at this level,” he said.

During the first round second leg at Kamuzu Stadium, Bullets were too slow in decision making on the ball and were often outmuscled by the taller and stronger Sudanese.

Goalkeeper Vincent Gona was very predictable in his ball distribution; he always restarted play wide on the left for the entire first-half. This allowed Al Hilal to pile pressure on left-back Yamikani Fodya.

Bullets team manager John Phiri said they had learnt from Al Hilal a lesson on simplicity of play and “how to play a stretching game.”
