Newly-promoted Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves on Saturday set out their Chitetezo Mbaula Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Premier Division campaign on a good note with a 1-0 win over Mangochi Challengers.

Played before a big turnout at Mangochi Stadium, the launch game marked the beginning of the league’s 2018 season under the franchise of its new sponsor United Purpose (UP).

Chatama: It was satisfactory

Alex Chikopa Jnr’s solitary first half strike was enough to earn the People’s Team reserve side full points.

Bullets Reserves coach Enos Chatama said though not satisfied with his team’s overall performance, he was happy to win their first game.

UP marketing manager Liviness Msafu said they were overwhelmed with the turnout.

“It gives us confidence that we will achieve our goals of reaching out to people in the rural areas to promote Chitetezo Mbaula,” she said.

UP, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), champions access to basic, clean and modern energy which is critical to sustainable and equitable development.

The K11 million one-year sponsorship was unveiled in Blantyre last week and it will see the champions getting K1.8 million while the runners-up will receive K1 million. The third-placed team will get K500 000. In Division One, the champions will get K1 million while the runners-up and third-placed team will get K500 000 and K300 000, respectively.
