The club’s second vice-chairperson Austin Kasito said the unveiling kick-starts the marketing of the jersey in the region.

“We want to return Carlsberg favour for sponsoring us by promoting their brand. We are in competition with our rivals Mighty Wanderers and it is important that we sell as many jerseys as possible to prove that we have the largest following in the country,” said Kasito.

He has since appealed to supporters in the Central Region to buy the jersey, which is going at K5 000 (about $14).

“So far, the selling points are only in Lilongwe, but we plan to open other outlets in Kasungu, Mchinji, Salima and Dedza. This is an important step in our commercialisation drive. We have to prove that we really deserve the Carlsberg sponsorship,” he said.

The jerseys are in all sizes and bear a Carlsberg logo on the front and the club’s name at the back.

Currently, according to Kasito, the selling points in Lilongwe are at City Phone Technology behind Lilongwe Bus Depot, Austo Car Breaking Bond in Malangalanga and Anafi Shop inside the main market.

He said money realised from the sales will go towards the welfare of players.
