The people’s team supporters flew their red and white flags, hooted their cars and blew their vuvuzelas. They sang choruses to celebrate a triumph they salvaged from the jaws of the Lions of Kaning’ina, as Moyale are proudly called.

On the contrary, Moyale was in total shock. The sight of Boy Boy Chima battering himself to the ground after missing a decisive penalty will haunt the Mzuzu-based outfit’s players long after they had arrived in their homes.

Moyale netted the opener in the 38th minute through Wiseman Kamanga after defender Miracle Gabeya was too slow to react to a seemingly harmless lose ball which the forward drilled home.

Bullets midfield clearly run out ideas for much of the first half. Wingers Fischer Kondowe and Mcfallen Ngwira were easily losing possession and could hardly complete a pass.

In the second half, Moyale’s defending was so tight. Boy Boy Chima fought like a brigadier and captain Timothy Nyirenda like a brigadier general to avert striker Chiukepo Msowoya and company any room.

But all the Moyale’s conviction was undone in the dying minutes.

After labouring fruitlessly in attack, Bullets got rewarded after a Moyale defender handled the ball in the box. Chiukepo Msowoya stepped up to equalise. There was no extra time and the match went straight into penalties. Pilirani Zonda and Chiukepo Msowoya missed while Imable Nikiyizi, Yamikani Fodya,

Miracle Gabeya and Fischer Kondowe converted.

Moyale’ Love Jere and Chrispine Fukizi missed while Sandres Munthali, Mtopijo Njewa and Timothy Nyirenda scored while Boy Boy Chima missed the decisive.circumstances you expect anything.”
