BCC embarks on road rehabilitation

Blantyre City Council (BCC) has appealed for patience amid the rehabilitation of some city roads and infrastructure.

BCC public relations manager Anthony Kasunda said in a statement the council is upgrading the Naperi Bridge near Mustang Sally from single to two lane carriage, maintaining Kasungu Crescent and Moi (Chichiri Roundabout to Kwacha Roundabout) footpath and shoulders and reconditioning Zalewa Road from old Kandodo Corner Shop to Kameza Roundabout.

Kasunda: Residents must look at
the greater good

According to the statement, the council has also asked businesspeople plying their trade along Mbayani-Chirimba-Kameza road to move their belongings.

“A special appeal is extended to the residents plying their business along the road reserves especially from Kandodo Corner Shop to Kameza Roundabout to immediately remove their property. The Council would be compelled to use enforcement mechanisms provided by the law,” reads in part the statement.

The statement further urges residents and the public to have a positive look at the developments taking place as they are of so much benefit to themselves, and not a council alone.

The project follows the completion of another in which the city rehabilitated roads constructed by-pass roads. n
