BCC wants Red Star injunction vacated
Blantyre City Council (BCC) has instructed its lawyers to apply for the vacation of a court injunction which 54 property owners in the city obtained restraining the Council from demolishing their buildings in the Red Star campaign.
BCC Public Relations Manager Anthony Kasunda has confirmed the development without giving further details.
If successful, the red star campaign which is aimed at making the city beautiful, is expected to roll out this March.
Lawyer representing the property owners, Mauya Msuku, was quoted in the media saying the buildings earmarked for demolition were approved by the same council less than ten years ago.
Through the campaign, BCC earmarked 161 buildings for demolition in Central Business Districts of Blantyre and Limbe.
President Peter Mutharika inaugurated the Red star campaign in February last year.
