In a move to cut cost incurred during video production, Lucius Banda took time off the stage on Sunday at Big Bullets Club and called on fans to ‘donate’ their presence in his new videos.

In a low and appealing voice, Banda said most artists in Malawi struggle when shooting videos because they need to pay everyone who appears in it.

“Best videos are those which have a lot of people in it. However, it is costly to get everybody appearing in the video paid. As such, as it is done in US or Nigeria, people who wish their artists well donate their presence in the videos,” he said.

Banda, who dictated a number (099 9 510 305), which anybody willing to appear in his videos for his new album can call, confirmed on Monday the response has not been favourable.

“We have a few people that have come. You know we still have problems mostly with girls who have their churches, parents, uncles, boyfriends to fear. But we will go ahead,” he said.

Banda, who during the show sampled some of his new songs that began enjoying airplay on Monday, said if things don’t go as planned, they will have to shoot the videos in South Africa.
