Be proud – you are a woman

For some women being a woman is something that they have not come to terms with. They still haven’t embraced femininity. They still feel like the less human that some cultures have brainwashed them with. Woman hood is beautiful. Stella Fowowe, dean of students, and senior lecturer at Blantyre International University writes (an extract from Mother’s day article).

In this article, let’s uncover some of the important nuggets or discover how we can develop a true sense of who we are so that we can fulfil our God given mandates and become happy Women. What are some these important nuggets?

I wish I could change who I am

Many women wish they could change who they are, they feel a sense of inadequacy thinking they could be better off, being another person. They often tend to compare themselves with others:

I wish I had what she had; will I ever measure up?; I think my boss prefer her to me; why did God make me this way; they are probably talking about me behind my back; I wish I had married Mr S.

The truth of the matter is that regardless of whom you are, where you are and what you have, you are unique in your own way, there is something special about you, you are created the way you are to fulfil a mandate. As a matter of fact, trying to be like another person only makes you a bad photocopy of the original and you will never maximize your potential.

Destroy the fear of failure

The fear of failure has been the undoing of many great. One wise man said ‘victory is never ending, failure is not final”. That you failed at a thing does not make you a failure in life, many never attempt anything because they dread failure, fearing what people will say if they don’t succeed. Thomas Edison said I tried 9999times before I got my desired result (light). According to him, he said he only discovered 9999ways through which light could not be gotten. As women, we need to rise to the great challenge and refuse to let failure hold us down. You may be down but you are not out so says my husband.

Learning to grow through difficult circumstances

Just as precious stones can only be polished through friction, our lives are perfected through the trials and challenges that come our way in life. The challenges that we face in life serve a purpose; they help us grow and develop into stronger and more faithful people. It’s almost impossible to live without some challenges. As we peer through the potholes of time we find numerous examples of heroes, great leaders who overcame great hurdles in life. Take for example Wilma Rudolph

Wilma Rudolph was born prematurely and had multiple complications. She developed pneumonia and scarlet fever and later had a bout with polio that left her with a crooked leg and a foot that twisted inwards.

At the age of thirteen, with much hard work and perseverance, Wilma made her school basketball and track teams. Wilma committed herself to returning 1960 Olympics for a gold medal and began a rigorous and disciplined training routine. While putting numerous hours on the track, she also paid her way through Tennessee State University, maintaining the grade B average that was required to stay on the track team. At the 1960 Olympics, she came through victoriously with three gold medals-the first American to win three gold medals in track and field event in a single Olympics.

Cultivate positive attitude to life

Positive attitude is a major requirement to maximise destiny as women. Life will not always be fair, things will never be as we always want them to be, but our attitude towards life is what determines what we get out of it.

We need to give thanks for everything, even through life difficulties. All things work together for good for those who love God and He will surely see them through.
