The Beach Soccer Malawi (BSM) has received a donation of referees’ uniforms from Italian Beach Soccer Federation.

BSM general secretary Davies Saddo said the donation follows a request they made to Italian Fifa beach soccer referee trainer Antonio Conte, who visited Malawi in February to train beach soccer referees.

Saddo: We believe we stand to benefit

“At the close of the referees’ workshop in Salima we pleaded with Conte to assist us with various referees equipment and he promised to assist. When he went to his country, he did his best to source the uniforms through the Italian Federation  and has lived up to his word,” said Saddo.

He said the consignment came in the country through Football Association of Malawi.

Saddo said the uniforms will be distributed to 30 referees from Mangochi, Salima, Chintheche in Nkhata Bay, Nkhotakota, and Karonga who participated in the workshop.

Meanwhile, according to Saddo, Beach Soccer Malawi wants to partner with the Italian Beach Soccer Federation.

“We believe we stand to benefit a lot if we establish such a partnership. We will be writing them formally. We will seek assistance from FAM on this initiative,” he said.

FAM  general secretary Alfred Gunda thanked the Italian FA for the donation.

“We are resource-constrained and need assistance to develop beach soccer,” said Gunda. n
