Beam rescues needy students in Kasungu, Salima

Beautify Malawi (Beam) Trust on Monday came to the rescue of 15 needy students in Kasungu by paying school fees for them for the whole year.

The students, male and female, are from three different community day secondary schools (CDSSs); namely, Chamakala, Kaluluma and Chilanga.

Speaking during cheque presentation at Chilanga CDSS, Beam representative Ellen Chisale said although the trust’s main agenda is to promote sanitation, it realises the importance of education on clean environment.

Chisale said: “Educated people are the ones who easily realise the importance of making their environment clean all the time.

“Furthermore, when people are educated they can easily bring sustainable development which does not negatively affect the environment.”

According to Chisale, the fees which amounted to K410 000 (about $651) were sourced from well-wishers from both locally and abroad.

Senior Chief Kaomba of Kasungu expressed his excitement upon receiving the cheques on behalf of the students. He thanked First Lady Getrude Mutharika who initiated Beam, saying the organisation is helping Malawians to change their mindset on sanitation issues.

Beam Trust is expected to reach out to over 900 000 needy girl students by the end of 2019.

This came to light on Saturday when the trust handed over K143 750 (about $228) cheque to Matenje CDSS in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Khombedza, in Salima for five needy students.

Chisale, who handed over the cheque said the amount was for the whole year. n
