First Lady Gertrude Mutharika’s Beautify Malawi (Beam) Trust has received a shot in the arm from HTD Limited, which has partnered with her towards improving the environment.

The two institutions sealed the deal on Friday in Blantyre at the newly-launched Abdul Majid Motor City where HTD donated a three-ton KIA truck, wheelbarrows, shovels and an office to Beam Trust.

The deal came a day after President Peter Mutharika officially launched the HTD building.

HTD board member Javid Sidik said their company takes social responsibility seriously and since they have the same vision as Beam Trust, they thought it wise to enter into a partnership.

“In future, we will contribute towards girls’ education which is also our area of interest,” said Sidik.

He hinted on meeting recycling experts for the trust to manage waste better.

Mutharika expressed gratitude for the partnership and donation, saying the vehicle will help transport waste from dumping sites and visiting communities in sensitising them on waste management, sanitation and hygiene.

“I am also excited with the fact that HTD has shown interest in girls’ education, which is one of the areas of interest for Beam Trust. When girls are educated, they can make good choices,” said Mutharika.
