Big changes in Namibia squad

Brave Warriors coach Roger Palmgren on Wednesday announced a 27-man squad ahead of a friendly against Zambia on Friday at Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.

Palmgren, who replaced Bernard Kaanjuka last month, has left out some big names, notably Rodolf Bester, Lazarus Kaimbi, Tangeni Shipahu, Pat-Navin Uanavi and Hendrik Somaeb.

Also not on the list is Jamunovandu Ngatjizeko of African Stars who had been a regular for the Brave Warriors.

Henrico Botes has been omitted from the squad after picking an injury while on duty for South Africa’s Platinum Stars two weeks ago.

Palmgren is using the game against Zambia to prepare for a crucial World Cup qualifier against Malawi on June 5 in Blantyre.

The Brave Warriors will come up against a Zambian outfit made up entirely of locally-based players. Striker Bornwell Mwape is the only player expected to pose a threat to Namibians’ defence.

Flames coach Edington Ng’onamo said the change could work to the Flames’ disadvantage.

“We were familiar with the dropped players. But we are not scared. We have our game plan and we believe it will work for us next week,” he said.
