Billy Kaunda takes music break

Veteran musician Billy Kaunda of Kumidima fame has announced that he is on a break until when he feels ready to bounce back with live music performances.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Nation, Kaunda who has been missing in live shows since 2004 when he was elected Member of Parliament, said he presently wants to spend time with his family and run his businesses following his loss, the Mzimba West parliamentary race.

“I have given myself a break in music so that I can spend more time with my family. I also want to have more time concentrating on my businesses. So, I can’t manage to start live shows now although I am no longer in Parliament,” said Kaunda, who owns Armageddon Band.

Kaunda also said it is difficult for him now to embark on live performances because his band members are all based in Blantyre while he is living in Lilongwe.

On whether this break will also affect the release of his next album, Kaunda said: “I just released my new album in December last year so I will give myself time before releasing another album. But if I feel I am free and ready to do so I will release the next album.”
