Bingu’s body arrives in Blantyre

People thronged the streets of Malawi’s commercial hub, Blantyre, Thursday afternoon as the body of late President Bingu wa Mutharika arrived in the city from Mzuzu.

 

Mutharika will be laid to rest on 23 April at his Ndata farm in Thyolo, some 20 kilometres from Blantyre.

The body of Mutharika is lying in state and thousands of people have been viewing his remains since its repatriation from One Military Hospital, South Africa where government officials claim he died on arrival on April 6. He suffered a cardiac arrest on 5 April.
