Bishop hails choir for DVD

St Charles Luangwa Catholic Parish Choir in old Malawi’s capital, Zomba, has launched the first ever DVD.

The Zomba-based group unveiled the 10-track Lero Ndilo Tsiku at the Great Hall, Chancellor College, last week.

Bishop Thomas Msusa of Zomba Catholic Diocese, who graced the show, bought the first DVD at K75 000 (about $250). Elizabeth Moto the second highest bidder, bought her copy at K50 000 (about $167).

“This is a unique and historic occasion not only to the choir and the parish but also the whole diocese. It is the first ever function of this kind organised by a parish and it is also a first for St Charles Luangwa to release a DVD,” said the Bishop.

He said the apart from encouraging the choir to aspire for higher standards, public performances lift the profile of the church and raise funds for various activities, including spreading the gospel.

St Charles Luangwa Parish is known as a paragon of self-support, having taken bold steps to wean itself from dwindling number of benefactors abroad.

Choir chairperson, Stanley Gondwe thanked the patrons for sacrificing their time to support the launch.

The climax of the event was the live performance by celebrated gospel artist Ethel Kamwendo. Other guest artists were Don Bosco Choir from Lilongwe, Montfort Media Choir from Balaka, Zomba CCAP and Holy Cross Choir.
