As Malawi joins the rest of the world in commemorating 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Blantyre Child Care Institutions (BCCI) has called on child care centres in the district to be vigilant in upholding the rights of children.

Speaking during a media briefing in Blantyre on Friday, BCCI board chairperson Godknows Maseko advised child care centres to be exemplary by ensuring that the children they raise grow up to be responsible citizens through love and care.

“There are some child care centres that perpetrate violence against children. We would like to ask the police to ensure that the law takes its course on individuals in such facilities,” he said.

In his remarks, Bishop Geoffrey Matoga of Destiny Orphanage advised children to report all forms of abuse to authorities.

Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Cecilia Chazama launched the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV on November 23 with a call for all victims to report and speak out against the vice.

This year’s theme is End GBV In The World of Work and Tertiary Institutions.
