According to Blantyre DHO senior health promotion officer Chrissy Banda the office will also assess nutritional status of under-five children and their mothers so that health officials can ably raise awareness about the importance of vitamins and de-worming children.

“We will also provide nutrition education to the masses and capture those that were missed during routine services,” Banda said.

She said the target is to reach 380 000 children in 31 government health facilities and 641 outreach sites in Blantyre District.

“We want the media to assist us in dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding vitamin A supplementation and de-worming and also to mobilise caregivers to bring their children to nearest health facility for this exercise,” urged Banda.

The campaign is being carried out in partnership with Save the Children (Malawi), Unicef, Hunger Project, Development Aid from People to People (DAPP), Blantyre City Council  and Mother 2 Mothers.
