Blantyre District Education Office yesterday organised a big walk to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child. Speaking during the event, Blantyre City district education manager Evelyn Mujima said the commemorations aimed at encouraging girls to stay in school as a platform where they can hear from role models within Blantyre City so that they stay in school until they gain skills and knowledge that will empower them to get employed or employ themselves. The United Nations has been observing 11 October as International Day of the Girl Child since 2012.
