Blantyre Rotaracts donates to flood victims

The Rotaract Club of Blantyre, a young version of Rotary Club of Blantyre, has donated assorted items to flood victims at Mtenje area in TA Machinjiri in Blantyre.

Rotaract Club of Blantyre president Victor Nyirenda said they were touched with the plight of about 169 families who have been affected by the floods in the area.

“About 169 families have been affected in the area. Out of these 97 families are sleeping at a school and 54 families are completely desperate. So we got donations from general public, within the club and also from Road to Relief Fund Chairperson Fatima Satar helped us with items to donate to our friends who have been affected by the floods,” said Nyirenda.

“We went with 100 blankets 1000 boxes of matches, 30 packets of candles, 500kgs of maize flour (Ufa),100 kgs of beans, 65 litres of cooking oil, 450 packets of soya pieces, 30 packets Likuni Phala, 80 packets of salt and 25 litres of Chlorine,” added Nyirenda.

He said they are concentrating raising donations to victims in Blantyre rural as a trip to the District Commissioners Office showed that there are over 11000 families affected by the floods in Blantyre rural.

“We will continue sourcing various items so that we alleviate the suffering of our friends affected by the floods,” said Nyirenda.

Rotaract Club of Blantyre is a young version of Rotary Club of Blantyre whose members are aged between 18 to 30 years and are dedicated to community and international service.
