The Blantyre Synod Broadcasting Station (BSBS) will be on air from next month for a three-month frequency testing.

Reverend Paul Mawaya, a member of the radio project committee, said preparatory work for the trial period is nearing completion.

“We already have plans and programmes at hand. We also sent out adverts for applications for various positions such as reporters, announcers, producers and technicians to be short-listed for interviews and once these have been done, we will roll out.

“The equipment we have commissioned will be for the whole Southern Region and some parts of the Centre such as Dedza. Full broadcasting is expected to start in January 2014,” said Mawaya.

Commissioning the equipment two weeks ago, former moderator of the synod Mercy Chilapula advised members of the church not to be satisfied with the project, but to have Jesus Christ as their saviour.

“A radio station without Jesus Christ is nothing. We have to be empowered with the word of God. Christians should know who to fear and trust,” said Chilapula.

General secretary of the synod Reverend Alex Maulana said the synod, which has 600 congregations in 18 presbyteries, would benefit from the radio.

“People will be accessing the airwaves from 91.4FM during the testing period for signals,” said Maulana.
