A 76-year-old man at Chadzunda in Blantyre has been gruesomely murdered by unknown criminals who broke into his house in the early hours of yesterday.

According to the deceased’s wife, Edina Galeta, a group of people that attacked her husband, Ebison Kamwambe, included women, some of whom she claimed came from the area which is in Traditional Authority Somba in the district.

In pain: Galeta

“They tied my legs and hands and hit me with a panga in the head and my left hand, before they attacked my husband.

“They hacked him three times on his neck and arms. He died on the spot. Surprisingly, they slit his neck and went away with his head and arms,” said Galeta.

Blantyre Police Station public relations officer Augustus Nkhwazi confirmed the incident, but said he could not give details for fear of jeopardising investigations by police officers who were already on the ground.

“Yes, it is true. We have received a report that a man in Milale has been hacked to death by unknown criminals. We are yet to establish what really happened. Our officers are on the ground following the matter,” he said.

The body of the late Kamwambe is expected to be laid to rest today in the village where the incident has happened.

According to Galeta, her husband’s murder comes weeks after Midima Magistrate’s Court ruled in his favour a land dispute.
