Defending champions Blantyre Zero and Ntopwa Super Queens got off to a flying start in the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Women Football League on Sunday following their 11-0 and 9-0 triumphs over King’s Ladies and Evirom Sisters respectively.

Zero dictated the affairs at Chirunga ground in Ndirande, Blantyre where Pilirani Malora and Enelesio Mhango scored four goals each. Salome Vinkhumbo notched a brace before Ruth Tambala struck the last nail on the King’s Ladies coffin.

King’s Ladies manager Prince Jere attributed their defeat to the absence of key players such as Orama Massa, Milika Douglas, Emma Banda, Linda Mpiri, Maggie Liwindo, Catherine Mtonga and Dyna Bota, who were preparing for their exams at the Polytechnic and the College of Medicine.

At Bangwe Youth Centre, hosts Ntopwa got four goals from Laita Magombo, a hat-trick from Mwayi Kasiya, and a goal each from Naomi Fatchi and Esther Nankhwali.

Blantyre Zero are at the summit of the eight-team log table with 22 points while Ntopwa Super Queens are on their heels with 20 points.

Zomba City Queens beat Sitima Yoce Sisters 6-0 on Saturday to take their tally to 16 points and strengthen their stand on the third slot whereas Dreams United drew 1-1 with ATU Ladies to keep their respective fourth and seventh places with 10 points and five points.
