National Women Football Committee (NWFC) has disqualified Blantyre Zero star Pilirani Malora from this year’s Fifa /FAM Under 20 Cup for age cheating.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) says records indicate that Malora is 21 and not 19 as her current passport shows.
However, according to NWFC chairperson Severia Chalira, they are yet to find proof on whether Malora’s teammate.
The inquiry into the ages of the two former national team players was initiated after King’s Ladies FC and Dreams United complained during age-vetting exercise at the BAT Ground in Blantyre last weekend and petitioned FAM and NWFC that Malora and Tambala are overaged because they registered as 19-year-olds three years ago at Cosafa Championships in Zimbabwe.
“FAM records have shown that Malora was born in 1993 and is ineligible for the Under 20 FAM Cup. For Tambala, we are still investigating her real age. If she is also found to be over 20, she will be disqualified because we want only players within the proper age-range to participate,” she said.
FAM’s competitions officer Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed that their records indeed show that Malora is over 20.
Malora could not be reached on her mobile phone. On her part, Tambala insisted that she is a teenager and denied that she was 19 in 2011
