Blue Eagles assistant coach Christopher Sibale has replaced head coach Deklerk Msakakuona following his appointment as head coach for the Malawi Under-17 national football team.

Msakakuona and former Flames captain Patrick Mabedi, who was appointed Under-20 national football team coach, signed one-year contracts.

In an interview on Wednesday, Blue Eagles vice-general secretary Williams Nkhoma said Sibale is qualified and has served the club for some time.

“The management could not bother looking outside the backroom staff because Sibale, who was the team’s technical director has all it takes to guide the team,” he said.

According to Nkhoma, the new coach, who holds CAF A coaching licence, will be assisted by Wilson Chidanti.

Sibale: This is a challenging role

In an interview, Sibale said he is looking forward to the new role once football resumes.

“This is a challenging role that I am looking forward to. I should provide positive results that our supporters expect from me,” he said.

Meanwhile, vice-chairperson Arnold Silungwe has been elevated to the position of chairperson following the transfer of Alexander Ngwala to South Lunzu Police Unit where he will be officer-in-charge.
