The items that included mattresses, blankets, bedsheets and mosquito nets were donated to the maternity ward.

Mpico marketing manager Ellen Chapinduka Nyasulu said the donation was part of their social corporate responsibility.

“We want to fill the gap in an area that contributes to reduction of maternal deaths for both mother and child,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the health centre, Professor Jeffrey Wilkinson hailed Mpico for the support.

“The donation will help us a lot, especially the maternity ward. We are grateful to Mpico for the timely gesture,” he said.

Central Region Netball Committee (CRNC) vice-general secretary Faggie Kazingatchire thanked the sponsors for using netball to help the needy.

Blue Eagles Sisters won the cup after beating CivoNets 44-36 on Mother’s Day to defend the title for three consecutive years.

They received K3 million prize money for being champions.
