Lilongwe and Districts Netball League (LDNL) defending champions Blue Eagles Sisters have signed four new players from the disbanded Cedar Queens.

The players are Ruth Kaliende (centre), Mada Mkandawire (goalkeeper) and wingers Molly Chisambiro and Maureen Masho.

Cedar, who represented the Central Region at the 2012 Presidential finals disbanded after their sponsor withdrew sponsorship due to the team’s poor performance.

“The players are young and they are talented. This will enhance competition in our squad. I would like to warn players that they should pull up their socks to safeguard their positions. I will focus on merit,” said Eagles assistant coach Madano Thepeteya.

Tepeteya said the team has also taken on board Roselyn Zakeyo and Owner Chawinga from Blantyre and Mponela respectively to groom them into netball players as both have a good height.

“We have embarked on an exercise of wooing tall girls into netball as you know that even our national team lacks tall players. The players were not attached to any team, we are teaching them from the basic fundamentals,” he said.

“Everyone has a vision to play at a big club such as Eagles. I know that they have experienced players and I am looking forward to the challenge. I will fight hard to secure a position,” said Chisambiro.
