The Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Board (PMPB) has warned against the selling of unapproved medicines in the treatment of HIV and Aids.

The board’s acting registrar Wilford Matchiya said in an interview on Monday they have received reports that some people are claiming that they can treat HIV and Aids; hence,  have come up with several herbal concoctions.

“People who claim to have found medicine which can cure HIV and Aids need to follow the proper procedures. They can come to the board with the samples, we will thereafter examine the samples and approve if they are right medications,” Matchiya said.

He said it is illegal for people to claim that they have found HIV and Aids medicine.

Matchiya said they have guidelines that have to be followed before individuals and organisations start advertising their medicines.

Recently, Gloria Jeremiah has been claiming that her Garan MW One herbal concoction cures HIV and Aids. She claims to have challenged government to do laboratory analysis on the herbs and claims to have approached the board, which trashes the claims.

The board, however, said the only drugs it approved for use in prolonging lives of HIV infected people are the antiretroviral agents (ARV).
