Football Association of Malawi (FAM) electoral body has approved the list of candidates nominated for the December 14 elections.

The body made in Blantyre on Saturday to scrutinise both the nominations and the nominees.

Electoral body chairperson Sylvester Kalembera, a High Court of Malawi judge, yesterday said: “We looked at the nominations and they have been approved.”

Asked how they handled the issue of Super League of Malawi (Sulom) who did not nominate anyone and National Youth Football Association (NYFC), he said: “Only Sulom did not nominate anyone, the youth committee just nominated a committee member, but we have candidates for all positions.”

Kalembera also said the electoral committee did not receive a complaint from Central Region Football Association Austin Ajawa who claimed that nominations for his committee were done without his approval.

“I know of the nominations submitted without his signature, but not the complaint [and so] the nominations were approved,” he said.

The position of president has two candidates, the incumbent Walter Nyamilandu and current first vice-president James Mwenda. The position of first vice-chairperson has also attracted two names—Jabbar Alide and Daud Ntanthiko. Incumbent second vice-president Othaniel Hara will compete against Lameck Khonje. Fellistas Dossi is set to be ushered in as executive member (female) unopposed whereas Muhammad Selemani, Masiya Nyasulu, Chimango Munthali, Rashid Ntelera, Chris Kuyeraand Davis Saddo will compete for executive member positions.
