Body buried without head

The body of a teenage girl, Esther Binowa, beheaded in Ndirande Township in Malawi’s commercial city of Blantyre over the weekend was buried in Zomba without its head.

Southern Region Police Headquarters spokesperson Nicholas Gondwa said in an interview on Monday, the head was still missing and police investigations were still underway to recover the head and arrest the murderers.

Asked why police allowed relatives to proceed with burial in such a shocking murder case that requires thorough investigation, Gondwa said a post-mortem was already conducted and they were waiting for results.

Gondwa said: “There will never be a point where we will need to exhume the body. Once the post-mortem results come out, we will proceed with the matter, whichever the direction.”

The body was found Friday morning, its head completely cut off near Chirunga football ground in the township.
