Deputy Minister of Health Chrissy Kanyasho has urged officers from government ministries, departments and agencies working at Mwanza Border Post to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
She said this on Tuesday when she visited Covid-19 shelters at Mwanza Border Post.
Said Kanyasho: “It is important that officers working at this entry point should receive the vaccine to boost their immunity against the disease.
“I have observed that frontline workers interact with people from different places; hence, the need to get the jab.”
On his part, Mwanza district director of health and social services Ireen Zuze said they screen people entering the country.
“Those who test positive for Covid-19 to the pandemic are handed over to their respective district health offices for more medical management,” she said.
Zuze commended the coordination among partners in the district in the fight against the disease.
Mwanza District Council chairperson Kayisi Chimbalanga encouraged people in the district to get the Covid-19 vaccine.
During the visit, Kanyasho toured the screening point, quarantine centre, waiting room, laboratory, data entry centre, Malawi Revenue Authority and Immigration offices.
The district has cumulatively registered 221 Covid-19 positive cases with 11 deaths.
