Malawi bowling national team is struggling at the Africa States Bowls Tournament’s Sixth Edition currently underway at Windhoek Country Club and Eros Bowling Club in Namibia.

Played on a small-scale among the elite in Malawi, bowling is a game in which players attempt to knock down a triangular group of pins from across the room using a ball that is rolled down an alley.

The Herald and The Namibian newspapers reported on Monday that Malawi is yet to win at the six-day event which started over the weekend. It is being played in trips and pairs categories, among others.

“Zimbabwe’s pairs team enjoyed a flying start as they battled their way to a 22-11 victory over Malawi. The Malawians also lost 8-31 to the Zimbabweans,” reported The Herald’s online edition.

The Malawi team, which comprises captain Laurie Arthur, Santokh Singh Sandhu, Bashir Shariff, Henry Mereka and team manager Sushila Khamisa, also lost 35-7 to Namibia, reported www.namibian.com.

Namibia’s trips team, consisting of Graham Snyman, Ewald Vermeulen and newcomer Axel Krahenbühl, was also in fine form as they beat Malawi 26-8.

In other pairs matches on Monday, Zimbabwe beat Malawi 39-29 and 31-9.

As of Tuesday, Namibia led the pairs competition with four points from two matches, followed by Zimbabwe on three points.

In the trips competition, Namibia and Zimbabwe are the joint leaders as both have four points from two matches. Other teams are holders South Africa, Botswana and Kenya.

All the countries have entered men and women’s teams, except for Malawi, who have only entered a men’s team.
