If heated exchanges are anything to go by, the August 11 non-title professional rematch between John Masamba and Boniface Stenala promises to be a thriller.

Stenala, 29, vowed to finish off Masamba during the bantamweight 10-rounder at the Motel Paradise, Blantyre, saying “judges won it on his [Masamba] behalf in the previous fight.”

“I am spending my nights in Bangwe Hill preparing for him. Mwamuna sawona mtunda (a man is never afraid of challenges). I am not the one to mess up with,” said Stenala.

Stenala said this while displaying his biceps and charging at Masamba who only smiled at his inexperienced challenger during the interview at The Nation’s offices.

Mulanje Last Boxing Promotions’ Nginjale Tough Ben Chitenje will host the fight, to be spiced up with raffle draws with 20 chicks as prizes, with the help of his father and Alpha Milling Company’s sponsorship.

Masamba, who claims to have lost nine times, won 16 and drawn twice in his career, kept his cool during the interview.

“I was not happy that in our first meeting, I won it on a unanimous points’ decision. I should have beaten him hands down. That is what I have to do and shut him up,” said the Sigerege, Chilomoni Township, Blantyre pugilist.

Some K70 000 (about $175) is pegged for the winner and K50 000 (about $125) for the loser. Nginjale also promised a return to the ring soon and “beat all these chaps one by one”.

Alpha Milling finance director Christopher Daziel on Wednesday said, subject to further discussions with Nginjale camp, the date of the fight might change.

“But we are indeed supporting the fight. We will meet the cost of hiring

the ring, the prize money and other expenses for preparations,” Daziel said.
