Boxers Agnes, Mwando engage
Gossip has turned into reality on the relationship between Malawi’s female boxer Agnes Mtimaukanena and Zimbabwean pugilist Brian Mwando as the two officially engaged at Shire Highlands Hotel in Blantyre on Saturday.
As if putting up a seal of approval that Mwando is now her lifetime partner, Mtimaukanena, dressed in white, smiled and proudly hugged her lover as cameramen took aim.
“It is no longer a secret, Mwando is my man,” said 22-year-old Mtimaukanena who comes from Mpama Village, Traditional Authority Malemia in Zomba.
Mwando, 23, comes from T/A Mkwayi in Mwando District in Zimbabwe.
“Agnes has brought happiness into my life and I have chosen to be with her for the rest of my life,” said Mwando, donning a black suit.
The two first met in 2010 in South Africa. Mtimaukanena is the holder of the World Boxing Forum (WBF) lightweight title. She has so far won three bouts, lost once and drawn once. Mwando has won six and lost two.
The couple, leave for Zimbabwe on Tuesday, with a word that they will wed in December this year in Harare.
