Malawi Defence Force boxer Simeon Tcheta has secured a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa middleweight 12-round title bout against Namibian Lukas Ndafoluma at Windhoek Country Club on February 27.

This will be Tcheta’s first continental title fight since he turned professional.

Tcheta: This is a stepping stone to greater things

On the same billing, another Malawian boxer Charles Misanjo will fight Alfeus Shilongo in super-middleweight eight-round bout.

Zimbabwean promoter Clyde Msonda brokered the fights, but are being promoted by MTC Salute Boxing Academy of Namibia.

Meanwhile, MDF has cleared Tcheta and is camping at Delta Force Boxing Academy, in Harare, Zimbabwe to prepare for the fight.

In an interview on Friday, he promised to win the title.

“This is a stepping stone to greater things. Winning the belt will mean great exposure to international match-makers and

also promoters. A continental belt is what every aspiring boxer dreams of. It means you are among the best in Africa. I will seize this opportunity with both hands,” he said.

Tcheta said good boxing facilities in Harare will help him to prepare well.

“I needed such an environment with proper trainers to prepare for such an important fight,” he said.

Tcheta has won 10 fights, lost three and drawn once since turning professional in 2016 while his opponent, who turned professional in 2011, has won 18 bouts and lost three.

Last year, Tcheta’s opponent beat Misanjo in the second round of an eight-round bout.

In an interview, Msonda said the Malawian has the potential to overcome the experienced Namibian opponent.

“Malawi has many good and talented boxers. He [Tcheta] is very disciplined and skilful boxer. He has a great future ahead of him. He needs to train hard and focus. We will make sure he gets good training and is in shape,” he said.
