After winning the FMB Six-a-side Hockey League, Braves Ladies have vowed to replicate the success in the 11-a-side contest.

This was the first time Braves Ladies have won the trophy in the five years FMB has been bankrolling the sport. However, they are yet to win the tougher 11-a-side League.

“Wind of change has blown in our club to the extent of having an insatiable hunger to win any trophy that comes our way. We have won the six-a-side league for the first time and our eyes are now set on the 11-a-side crown,” she said after receiving the trophy from FMB Limbe branch manager John Chipeta.

Meanwhile, the 11-a-side league kicked off on Saturday at the same venue where Genetrix Ladies beat Sports Complex Simba 3-1. In the men’s category, Genetrix men, who are six-a-side champions, triumphed 2-1 over Scorpions.

Hockey Association of Malawi (HAM) general secretary Chigomezgo Thindwa said they are happy that the league was full of surprises and was no longer predictable as regards the eventual winners.

FMB marketing manager Widdey Nsona said they are happy with the growth of the leagues in terms of competitiveness and they wish all the teams the best of luck in the 11-a-side contest. n
